During this period, King Wijayabahu the first, King Maha Parakramabahu the first and King Nissankamalla. Rulled the country. Prince Keerthi formed an army and invaded Anuradhapura and defeated the South Indian King who occupied Anuradhapura and become the King of Sri Lanka as Wijebahu the First. After becoming the King first thing he did was uniting the country and then he started to develop the country, later he shifted the capital to Polonnaruwa. During Polonnaruwa period major developments in irrigation, paddy cultivation and agricultural Products was taken place, . During the period of King Maha Parakramabahu the first, from 1153 AD to 1186 AD. he built 165 dams 3000 canals, 163 major and 2376 minor tanks. And the largest was Parakrama Samadra.tank, He was very interested in irrigation work and architecture. |
